Welcome Boulder Pushers

Chances are if you’ve made your way here, you’re a writer. I know, commence your eye roll. I’ll give you a sec. Okay. Maybe you’re not the Harvard Professor of Exploratory Literature in a tweed blazer and bowtie kind (and let’s be honest, no one is). You’re likely a burned out student, an overstimulated mom, or a hobbyist peeking their head above corporate water.

You might be looking for that gold nugget of advice that pushes your creative boulder over the hill crest, or you want to find a community of other boulder-pushers. Whatever slice you’re from, you write, therefore, you’re a writer.

You’re in the right place.

This journal is for anyone who’s ever felt stuck in that swampy middle ground between inspiration and finished work. We’ll trudge through it together. I’ll share the insights I’ve gathered from my own writing struggles and breakthroughs, along with prompts to jumpstart your creativity when the well feels dry. Together, we’ll turn boulders into pebbles. See what I did there? Callback.

Think of this space as a kind of recipe book. The ideas presented here are to help you mix that beautiful alchemy that is writing and are in no way absolute. Some days you’ll find practical advice for untangling plot knots or developing characters or plot. Other days, you’ll discover prompts designed to surprise you, to help you write your way toward something unexpected. And sometimes, you’ll simply find a fellow writer’s shoulder to cry on.

These are my struggles and insights from the frontlines of writing. Because I, too, fall short of the Harvard tweed. Shocking. Clutch pearls. But I have published a few things, written for some comedy shows, and managed to avoid becoming a tortured artist. I have selfishly typed this blog as a means of having more friends in the muck.

Let’s write our way through.
